Link Requests

Technicians can link closely associated requests by designating a parent request and linking other requests to it.

  1. Go to Requests and choose the respective customer from the drop-down in the header.
  2. In the requests list view, select the requests using the check boxes, and click Link Requests.

  1. Enter your comments in the pop-up displayed and click Confirm.

The requests will be linked, and the first created request will be the parent request.

You can view the comments added while linking requests in the request's History

Detach Linked Requests

  1. Go to the Requests module and open a request. Ensure you have selected the respective customer from the drop-down in the header.
  2. On the right pane, you will see if the request has other linked requests or if this request is linked to another request.
  3. If you're inside a linked request, click Detach and select Yes.

  1. If you're inside a parent request, click Detach, then select the requests, and click Remove Link.
Info
When you add a note to a parent request, you can choose whether to display the note in the linked requests. Edits that you make to the parent request's note will not be reflected in the linked requests.

When you add a resolution to a parent request, you can choose to display the resolution in the linked requests. This resolution will override the existing resolutions of the linked requests. The edits you make to the parent request's resolution will be reflected in the linked requests.

You cannot display the linked request's note or resolution in the parent request.

You can link requests of different templates and different sites. If you're associated with only the parent request's site and not the linked request's site, you cannot perform operations on the linked request.

If you link a parent request (A) to a new parent request (B), then all the requests linked to A will be linked to B.

You can set up the reference request to be closed only after the linked requests are closed. Go to Admin > Automation > Closure Rules > Request Closure Rules > Mandatory fields for closing requests and select All child requests should be closed

Linked requests will always remain to be independent requests with their own SLAs, Business Rules, etc.
You can link a request to only one parent request at a given time.
